Toujeo Solostar || What exactly is Toujeo Solostar?

Toujeo solostar

Toujeo Solostar is a trademark of Sanofi, a prescription drug. Toujeo is FDA-approved for treating type 1 and Type 2 diabetics in children and adults six years old or older.

Toujeo is a source of insulin glargine, which is a long-acting insulin. It can be used in a subcutaneous injection made in a pen-shaped prefilled injection.

Toujeo dosage forms!

 There are two kinds of Toujeo pen:

Toujeo SoloStar.

This prefilled pen is available with the equivalent of 450 units of insulin glargine in 1.5 milliliters of solution. It can therefore provide the equivalent of 80 units of insulin an infusion.

2. Toujeo Max SoloStar.

The pen that is prefilled contains the equivalent of 900 units of insulin glargine in 3mL of arrangement. It can therefore provide as much as 160 insulin units per dose.

Uses of Toujeo solostar:

Toujeo is an FDA-approved medication to regulate blood sugar levels for adults and treat diabetes type 1 or type 2.

In patients with type 1 diabetes, the body isn’t able to make enough insulin.

In type 2 diabetics, your body could be intolerant to insulin, which means that it cannot take insulin.

So toujeo is a substitute for human insulin and acts as natural insulin that helps control glucose levels in the blood.

Toujeo solostar dosage;

The amount of Toujeo varies based on the following factors:

  • The condition that diabetic sufferers from.
  • Patients age.
  • Patient weight
  • Diet and lifestyle.
  • Patients blood glucose level

Typically, doctors will begin the low dose and gradually increase it each month until they reach the correct dosage to control the blood sugar level.

Toujeo solostar Pen Storage

Toujeo pen can be kept at the temperature (2degC up to 8degC), but it should not be stored in a freezer.

Pens that are frozen Toujeo are to be destroyed and are not usable.

Please don’t put it back in the refrigerator after Toujeo is taken off the fridge and uses the medicine.

Toujeo can be stored Toujeo at ambient temperature ( 30 degrees Celsius) for 56 days.

Switching to Toujeo

Changing from another once-day, long-acting insulin to Toujeo, your starting dose of Toujeo would probably be equivalent to your dose for the other long-acting insulin. 

  •  After you switch, your physician will adjust your Toujeo dose.
  •  If you want to change from Lantus to Toujeo, you need a higher daily toujeo dose than Lantus because the body absorbs Toujeo more slowly than Lantus solution.

What happens if you don’t get the toujeo dose?

If you didn’t take your toujeo dose within two hours of your scheduled dose, it’s okay, and you can take the Toujeo amount. However, you must note that it may require adjusting the next time you take your dose.

The side effects of Toujeo Insulin

Toujeomay can cause minor to severe side effects.

Below are some typical adverse effects that have been observed.

Common side effects.

The most commonly reported side effects of Toujeo are:

  • Respiratory infections
  • like the common cold
  • flu,
  • And bronchitis.
  • coughing
  • low blood sugar
  • Retention of fluids, accompanied by an increase in the size of legs and arms.
  • weight gaining
  • pain, rash, swelling,
  • itching at injection websites
  • Hypertrophy or thickening of the skin at the site of injection.

Serious side effects:

Adverse side effects from Toujeo aren’t familiar. However, they can be experienced. they include

Blood sugar levels are extremely low. levels, symptoms such as

  • fatigue (tiredness)
  • hunger
  • dizziness
  • sweating
  • shaking
  • Vision blurry
  • confusion
  • headache
  • irritability
  • Loss of consciousness as well as Coma

Low potassium level

  • Symptoms can include:
    • tired (lack of vitality)
    • muscle cramps
    • weakness
    • rapid heartbeat
    • Your chest is pounding.
    • abnormal heart rhythm

Severe allergic reaction:

  • Symptoms include:
    • Trouble breathing
    • itchy skin
    • flushing (warmth and redness of the skin)
    • rash
    • anxiety
    • mouth swelling and throat

Contraindications of Toujeo:

  • Toujeo is not advised for those who are allergic to insulin glargine or any excipients found in the toujeo solution.
  • Toujeo cannot be employed in hypoglycemic episodes.
